article 1:
If Harvard Says Low Carb Diets are OK, will Dieticians Finally See the Light?
Now that evidence continues to mount about the effectiveness and safety of low carb diets, the
Harvard Health Letter even had to speak about low carb diets.
Low carb diets lose weight more quickly, but if low fat dieters stay with the diet, they eventually catch up. However,
As for the health effects, chief objections to low-carb dieting have been that they can increase levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol. But both year-long studies found that low-carb and low-fat diets had the same effect on LDL levels. And low-carb diets outdid low-fat diets with respect to other blood fats related to heart disease.
Now, for those people shorting low carb stocks... be very choosy which low carb stocks you short, because
low carb IS here to stay. (Only bad tasting, high priced products are going to go down.)
Of course,
the dieticians will be the last group to admit that there might be some benefit to low carb diets -- still. So if stock pickers look to this group as a bellweather, well, the results won't be pretty.
article 2:
Diabetics -- When to take off part of a foot versus the lower leg
Dear Lord, we have to get better at diabetes, and we have to be more open to low carb diets because right now we are failing miserably. When:
a low carb diet is proven to be effective with diabetic children
a low carb diet reduces cholesterol and triglycerides after 6 months and one year studies
and a high fat diet greatly improved diabetes in patients,
many dieticians still refuse to
try this with their patients!
Well, they then may get to
help them decide whether to take off a foot or a leg, although it is easier to make that decision now.
